St. Francis Feast Day: Roman Rite Calendar - 10/04While in meditation on Mount Alvernia in the Apennines in September 1224, Francis received the stigmata, which periodically bled during the remaining two years of his life.

Born: 1181 at Assisi, Umbria, Italy as Francis Bernardone
Life: Founded the Franciscans based on a simple statement by Jesus: "Leave all and follow me." In 1212 Clare of Assisi became his spiritual student, which led to the founding of the Poor Clares. Visited and preached to the Saracens.

not try to be comforted but to comfort,
not try to be understood but to understand,
not try to be loved but to love.Because it is in giving that we are received,
it is in forgiving that we are forgiven,
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
