The Middle Way

"If you pull the string too tight it will break,
if you leave it too slack it will not play."

-"The Little Buddha" -Buddha [Keanu Reeves]
overhears a musician teaching a student

Space management assigns 'the middle way' force field to the centre
of an octagon blueprint, dedicated to healing and rejuvenation. Since
most people cannot place their bed in the centre of their bedroom, the
Northwest corner of the room is the  preferred alternate. The upper
left quadrant of the bedroom is usually considered by most to be the
best vantage point for most domestic floor plans. For B5 fans, this
arrangement provides a new meaning to the phrase "night watch."

Still Places Work With A Neutral and Pastel Palette

Sense of Direction     First get a sense of the energy in your space as it exists before you do anything. Arrange
an altar, table, or top of a dresser. Set a tangible symbol-object at each of the four cardinal points to summarize the feeling of placement in every room of your home:  the office/work place, and your garden. Draw a symbol for each area if you prefer.

North area of your altar signifies:  Fame, credit and professional
image, integrity, public recognition, [use business card, resume,
and brochure/ad for the first arrangement]

WEST area of your altar signifies:     +     EAST area of your altar signifies:
Your mystical power, legacy, strength,                                                      Children, inner child, adventure,
and capability to transcend duality                                                            creativity, fantasy, and joy; see SE

SOUTH area of your altar signifies:  Career prospects,
new opportunity,  good luck, energy source. [front door,
main entry of the home, door into the room you design]

The center of the compass is your still zone. Set the tone for tranquility, health, and serenity in each room by clearing this core area or you may use the space for centering.  Place a favourite picture at the center of  your altar, or choose a symbol of calm, health, and harmony that feels appropriate, in the room you arrange. Your home, office, and garden work with unique blueprints. Try to sense/know more about them.  Spend a little time 'getting to know' every environment where you spend your time. You draw energy from these surroundings.

See diagram below for other points of power. Remember the bedroom has its own tranquility zone, as the other rooms do. Every still zone should be coordinated to match the energy, activity, and people the room will probably host. The goal is to be able to visualize yourself in the zone centre and luxuriate in harmony with the glow.  Éowyn and Aragorn in the Great Hall.

Orphic Egg

The ancient symbol of the Orphic Mysteries was the serpent entwined egg, which signified Cosmos as encircled by the fiery Creative Spirit. The egg also represents the soul of the philosopher; the serpent, the Mysteries. At the time of initiation, the shell is broken and man emerges from the embryonic state of physical existence wherein he had remained through the fetal period of philosophic regeneration.

Harry Potter:  The event is a part of the Triwizard Tournament held at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in, Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire. Harry gains an understanding about the trial at the lake that is the next test for the four competitors. He takes an extremely extravagant bubble bath with the egg he took from a terrifying dragon, as recommended by Cydric, the Gryffindor champion. Harry  submerges with the egg and, under the water, he hears the directions for success provided to him in the music.

Babylon 5:  A wonderful version of the transformation, in the Babylon 5 universe, is captured in the first series when Minbari Ambassador Delenn constructs an incredible cocoon in her quarters. The layered insulation she provides for herself acts as a protective shell; she can undergo her metamorphosis safely, and without interruption,  by going inside, like a caterpillar, when it is ready to transform itself into a butterfly.

Colour  Take the middle line with neutrals and, like good wine,  let them breathe  in order to fully appreciate them.  The bedroom is where we spend eight or more  hours every day of our lives. The emotional atmosphere where we sleep contributes to our inner serenity and ability to rebuild the physical temple while asleep. Neutral colours help slow our nervous and emotional system in the manner of fine music and art. Some therapists are counseling people about the two or more hours just before sleep, to help reduce tension,  stress, and even insomnia. Personally I find a theta (yoga) level 8 sleep state is an easy maneuver when I listen to flute and koto,  violin/viola, or choral (Handel.)  Our best neutral colours allow us to acquire personal power units without surrendering any others in trade/exchange.

Imagine Frodo in Rivendell with the elves, the power of the Council of Elrond, and star-shine-Moon-glow above Galadriel's Glade in Lothlórien. Compare soft candlelight on Frodo's right with both heat-fire sources in Harry Potter's cupboard, and Captain's Quarters on the space station. Frodo sleeps indoors surrounded by the palette that is also provided on Babylon 5 - for the Captain.

Outside Frodo's window are swirling, spiraling, Mellow Topaz-Autumn colours. The Autumn energy that symbolizes 'changing times' dominates Harry's little cupboard under the stairs at the Dursley's home. Everything in Harry's life changed that year, when he celebrated his eleventh birthday, at the beginning of his new Jupiterian cycle. Frodo celebrated a birthday the night he came into his own, inherited the Ring of Power, and took on his quest. Captain Sheridan enjoyed a 're-birth' day while stationed on Babylon 5 just before he transformed the way business in space would be conducted for generations. His treaties and alliances are sterling examples, the best tradition, of Aquarian Age role models.

An important symbol exists in the light control mechanism in each still zone.
Since ancient times, the person who can control the source of illumination [fire, light] is going to be in authority over other people. This is often found at North in the diagram that divides a home into eight energy patterns, as the example explains. Most energy management blueprints give the 'fame, prosperity, and reputation' area of a home to it's North power point, the farthest place from the main doorway. The North part of this area is often in direct alignment with the entry so energy moves into the home, passes through the center area of the pattern [healing zone/still-tranquil place] and up to the fame, recognition, and integrity sector, as illustrated. This vertical energy line should be facilitated.

Amiens Labyrinth

The part of this energy pattern known as Fame is always associated with fire,
light, and hot colours, usually hot reds matched with gold. The Creative Spirit is perhaps symbolized by the idea of the salamander, living in the flame without being burned. In Christian chronology, the suggestion of fire as part of public life is expanded to the intense energy imparted on Pentecost, in the form of tongues of fire, to the followers of Jesus in the upper room.

In Frodo's situation, he experiences the regenerative technique of  the elves at Rivendell after a terrible conflict on Weathertop when the Hobbits were surprised by the Riders in Black. Frodo recuperates over several days, in a healing zone created by Lord Elrond. His bed is placed in the North and Center of the room. He is surrounded by slow burning candles, often associated with the North-West and North-East sections of the East-West diagram.

Frodo is unable to control his light source while the healing process is underway. He cannot turn the light on or off. We are led to believe these details are tended to by Lord Elrond, Frodo's host and healer, and by Gandalf the Grey, keeping vigil. Frodo's higher octave silver chord, connected to oversoul, is again reinforced by elves, after the tragedy in the Mines of Moria, when he meets Galadriel. The Elf-queen gives him "the brightest star" [DVD has this gift-giving scene.]

Harry Potter can easily reach the small cord that connects to the switch of his overhead light in the cupboard under the stairs.  The thread hangs from a shadeless lamp, a bulb in the ceiling, and reaches to his hand. [The cord runs along the edge of the photograph. Even though Harry can manage to control the light in his life, he can be forced into tight quarters [by the Dursleys.] Harry's gift-giving patron is Hagrid, who rides a mean motorcycle through the night sky as if it were Pegasus. Hagrid cares for
magical creatures at Hogwarts. Not surprisingly, many of them can fly - first encouraging sign of a sky-conscious mindset in the series. Hagrid is also associated with the gods' fire, dragon fire, and lightning - electric fire related to Mars-Sol-Jupiter was also an interest of Benjamin Franklin. Harry's 'badge of office' is the jagged scar on his upper forehead that appears  to be a lightning bolt. This 'mark' was acquired as a newborn, and is the  distinguishing characteristic we learn about during the early years at Hogwarts. When Harry is in danger he can feel a warning pain via the small lightning bolt. The three types of lightning studied by the ancients are posted on Harry Potter - Dan Radcliffe page linked to TriWizard topics.

The recognized seal and symbol of power we have for Captain John Sheridan is a lifetime roadmap, a stencil cut to resemble evolution of B5 in many ways. Above Sheridan's pillow is the suggested ladder-like form symbolic of the Captain's gradual ascent to the archetypal catbird seat that assures a clear view above the clouds. As steps move closer to the global picture, a sphere of emotional strength for him, the implied movement upward ties up the need for expansion with his sense of loyalty, blending them into one priority. The headboard is solid, stable and yet gives a clue 'how to transcend.'

Do "Guardian Angels" really exist?

The guide Jung dubbed psychopompus [soul guide] comes to mind in both the dream reality and the afterlife. "Messengers" appearing in dreams are recorded in all sacred literature from all ages, because they convey the powerful signals from oversoul as well as mundane guidance. The archetype in Egypt, Anubis 'Opener of The Way' is the patron saint of doctors, embalmers, and psychologists. His Greek/Roman counterpart, Hermes-Mercury is naturally the lightning of the intellect ~ Christian and Qabala term is Raphael, guide of those who journey by land or sea or air.
Tolkien's Middle-earth races seem to relate interdependently so that many prominent members within each race act as guides for each other.

Queen Galadriel assists Frodo  when he arrives in the heart of elvendom, her LothLorien golden glade. Her image above Frodo's pillow corresponds to the symbol of unity suggested by the globe in Sheridan's quarters. Harry Potter is strengthened and enriched by two professors and the Keeper of Keys from Hogwart's School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, first silent and hidden from his waking mind "until he is ready." The theme appears throughout sci-fi television and film today -  Captain John Sheridan is both taught throughout the five year B5 story, and on occasion rescued by, higher aliens Kosh and Lorien, the most ancient one. Spock, Sarek, Counselor Troi, Guinnan, Kosh, Yoda, and even Leonardo de Vinci [Star Trek Voyager] all get into the picture with sage words of wisdom.  Can we facilitate communication with these higher angels in our lives? Some say the place where you sleep has a lot to do with it!

he had the task of recovering a Golden Egg from a fire-breathing

CONSTANTINE    Private quarters of John Constantine, 'Exorcist Extraordinaire'
Angela [Rachel Weisz] and John Constantine at west wall. His bedroom above a
bowling alley with hot energy constantly blazing down the lanes, requires some
degree of balance. Even moreso because Constantine chain smokes. The cache
of large water bottles lines this wall for a variety of reasons. Water is an element
that helps Constantine 'cross over' whenever things on his agenda get a little too
hot. Both characters are attempting to manage bad news in a way suggested by
the background. Angela stands before blinds that symbolize her left brain, faux
computer-safe paradigm, in contrast to Constantine's multi-dimensional path in
life. When Angela seeks Constantine's help with an investigation into the death
of her twin sister, they uncover a plot to take over the world of mortals with the
legendary 'Spear of Destiny.' They join forces and take the road to hell and back.
Like spooky? Check this one. Probably the most under-rated movie of the year.

THE BLIND SPOT IN THE MIND

“… [Nature] is a mass of laws; yet as these laws appear to us, they are so beautiful that we write poems about them, paint pictures of them, write music to express them. Everywhere around us, nature is both factual and beautiful. It seems to have a wonderful way of disguising facts, and yet permitting them to operate. Nature has its most wonderful and valuable facts in rivers and streams and mountains and sky, in the relationships of living creations. Yet in all these things, nature permits the appearance of spontaneity, a wonderful individual power for graciousness. Facts never seem to be cold in nature; they are cold only when man intellectualizes them.

This is a lesson that we can apply to our own temperaments. It is not necessary to be dry and dull in order to be truthful. To discover the art of living factually without this lack of beauty – this was one of the great problems of Chinese philosophy; and the Chinese accomplished a great deal in making the world of truth identical with the world of beauty. They realized the beautiful facts of life; and the emotions, which get us into trouble, were one of these beautiful facts of life to them. Instead of turning these emotions upon each other, often in a destructive way, they permitted their emotional natures to become enriched by receptivity to the sublime life that exists everywhere. We can learn a great deal from this.”

Palace of Odysseus [Ulysses] and Penelope

"A bush of long-leafed olive was growing within the court, strong and vigorous, and girth it was like a pillar. Round about this I built my chamber, till I had finished it, with close-set stones, and I roofed it over well, and added to it jointed doors, close-fitting. Thereafter I cut away the leafy branches of the long-leafed olive, and, trimming the trunk from the root, I smoothed it around with the adze well and cunningly, and made it straight to the line, thus fashioning the bed-post; and I bored it all with the augur. Beginning with this I hewed out my bed, till I had finished it, inlaying it with gold and silver and ivory, and I stretched on it a thong of ox-hide, bright with purple." [23.190-201]

Amulets Sanctioned by Kabbalah

The principal classes of inscribed amulets sanctioned by Kabbalah have been grouped by Bischoff in his Elemente der Kabbalah 9page 191)
E. A. Wallis Budge writes, "The text of Psalm xcvii was often written on leather in the form of a seven-branched candlestick, and worn as an amulet, and the beautiful Psalm cxxi was often copied for amuletic purposes. Sometimes the text on an amulet contained a play on words, e.g. "Joseph is a fruitful bough by a well" (Gen. xlix.22). The word 'ayin means both "eye" and "well," and the verse is intended to say that Joseph was victorious over the Evil Eye, and that every descendant of his shall be also." -E. A. Bruce Boxleitner, has penned two sci-fi westerns.
They are:
Frontier Earth, Ace, 1999, and the sequel

William Shatner composed the TEK series that successfully converted to TV movie mode and several Star Trek books, considered for big screen entertainment [check the "Mind Melds" offer at his homepage] and Room Lake. From chatroom exhange about possible Star Trek films,"... star trek is about people.  who are in conflict, in a sci-fi environment. they must deal with issues that are internal, like truth, and love, and greed.  when we veer from that course, and get too fancy (like we have now), I think ST gets diluted." General rule on use of neutrals:  Too few will minimize a wardrobe by limiting the potential use  of your staples. Too many neutrals relax you too much and mask personal charisma.
