Gandalf takes Aragorn onto the desolate heights of the mountain behind Minas Tirith. At the edge of the snow they find a sapling of the White Tree of Gondor with which Aragorn replaces the dead remains of the white tree which has been standing in the court of the Citadel.

Gondor's City of Kings, Minas Tirith, once named "Tower of the Setting Sun" stood three thousand years before the Battle of Pelennor Fields. The city captures the power of the summit where the union of opposites is realized. It has been said that the secret that teaches the way to success will give instruction on the merger of opposing elements. For example the centre in alchemy may be seen as the circle, used to suggest the value of each viewpoint in the community, the 360 contributing degrees to correct mathematical composition. The Fellowshp of the Ring: The Council of Elrond meets in the circular garden of Rivendell to decide the course of action with regard to The Ring of Power; and in the highest part of central Lothlorien, after the tragedy in the Mines of Moria, the Fellowship meet with Galadriel and Celeborn in the audience hall. The Two Towers: Helm's Deep [The Hornburg] is the most vital point the night when the major battle rages with troops sent by Sauron and Saruman. There are core references to the "dark night of the soul" because the Hornburg is the center of the fortress. Return of the King: Meduseld, the Golden Hall has a hearth at the center with an underground spring and basin just below the Hall, blending fire above and water below. The combined elements provide an atmosphere of harmony, healing, and equilibrium for the Rohirrim. Note: When someone approaches this formula with an incorrect perspective the result can be disastrous. The White Tower of Ecthelion, in the centre of the seventh level of Minas Tirith, was the house of the Palantír responsible for Denethor's descent into madness.
